The RDX Redundancy Control Module

A necessity for CMX systems that demand uninterrupted control, monitoring, and historization of data, the RDX Redundancy Control module for CMX features two completely redundant CMX systems with single or dual I/O configurations.

Utilizing a standard master/slave architecture, the two systems are in continuous communication with all I/O while maintaining an ongoing, diagnostic monitoring link.

Under normal running conditions Continuous and Sequence Control, Continuous and Unit History, and Alarm and Message Status run on the Master CMX system. Meanwhile the Slave CMX system serves as an online hot-backup with full mirroring of data history and an operator interface function capable of monitoring and modifying setpoints and control changes in a manual mode. In the event the Master CMX system is interrupted, the Slave CMX system, which always runs in parallel with the Master while monitoring its status and inputs, automatically becomes the new Master .

A manual switch-over is also possible: the Slave system becomes the new Master automatically designating the Master as the new Slave system.

The RDX Redundancy Control module features:

  • Dual fully-redundant computers with single or redundant sets of I/O.
  • The ability to monitor and modify data from both the Master and Slave systems.
  • Full Continuous and Unit History on both the Master and Slave systems.
  • Full Alarm and Message monitoring on both the Master and Slave system.
  • Configurable Slave function allows for control of continuous control algorithm on an individual basis.
  • Automatic HMI GD Client Display Console switchover logic.
  • Automatic Master - Slave negotiation on power-up.
  • Automatic user initiated switchover logic.
  • Automatic serial data transfer for non-redundant serial data links that do not support redundant communication ports.
  • Redundant network cable support
  • Standard Ethernet (NIC) interface card (NE2000) support
  • Complete software switchover logic without any hardware switching components eliminating any single-point failure.
